Petition: Support Lt. Ehren Watada’s principled, moral and legal position to refuse deployment to participate in the US invasion and occupation of Iraq.
We demand all charges against Lt. Watada for "missing movement and "conduct unbecoming an officer" be dropped and oppose all efforts to bring him to trial again in violation of his 5th Amendment protections against "double jeopardy."
Lt. Ehren Watada has dutifully refused participation in the US war on Iraq, as prescribed by the US Army Field Manual, since the war violates International law and was initiated by the Bush Administration's deception of US Congress and the American people with lies that Sadam Hussein’s possessed weapons of mass destruction and connections to Al Queda. He is the first US military officer to refuse deployment to Iraq and part of a growing worldwide movement of soldiers and civilians in opposition to the most unpopular war in US history.
The US Army has already brought Lt. Watada to trial once and failing to present a credible case, the prosecutors sought and received a mistrial in order to attempt to bring Lt. Watada to trial a second time.
The US District Court in Tacoma, Washington must now decide whether the US military can bring Lt. Watada to trial for a second time.
We the undersigned:
Support Lt. Watada’s stand against the Bush administration’s illegal war in Iraq.
Demand the US District Court uphold Lt. Watada’s 5th amendment protections against "double jeopardy".
Oppose any retrial of Lt. Watada on charges of missing movement and conduct unbecoming an officer and drop all charges immediately.
Oppose the continued persecution and harassment of Lt. Watada and other military war resisters.
